Gallery of Modern ArtBritish Art Show 27 May to 21 August 2011

The British Art Show, which happens every five years, is an exhibition of the best in British contemporary art and is visiting Glasgow for the first time in 20 years.

The exhibtion will showcase works by rising stars such as Phoebe Unwin, Karla Black and Michael Fullerton as well as more established names such as Sarah Lucas, Alasdair Gray and Charles Avery.

The Gallery of Modern Art will be one of the Glasgow venues and Intermezzo are offering private evening viewings of the show with an introduction to the best in contemporary art in Britain today.

The Gallery of Modern Art is housed in an inconic building, built in 1778 by the tobacco baron Lord William Cumminghame, and also previously home to Glasgow's telephone exchange.

Glasgow is world famous for its artists who live, work and study in the City.  Indeed, Glasgow artists regularly appear on the shortlist for the annual Turner prize.

Intermezzo can offer tours of the building which include the history of Glasgow's tobacco trade, the City's financial legacy as well as Glasgow's current place in the contemporary art world.
